Every single person has some type of routine, right? Here are a few things I do without fail every morning before I leave for work. Brush my teeth, wash my face, tone, and ice roll. Ya know, the normal “first things you do when you wake up” things. I don’t go through my entire nighttime skincare routine (I’m working on updating this post, but it’s still pretty accurate) because I just don’t feel the need to and I really don’t have that much time. A quick cleanse to get off my sleeping mask and a quick use of toner and that’s pretty much it. I like to do a quick ice roll while I’m picking out my outfit for work. Put on moisturizer + SPF. It took me quite a while to incorporate this into my routine. But I knew I needed to do it. My go to is Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum (SPF 50) . It not only protects you from the sun, but also from pollution and blue light. Another great feature is that it helps even skin tone. Not much more I could ask for in a product! DEODORANT (duh). Ok, so I haven’t made the switch to natural deodorant (yet), but every morning I obviously can never leave the house without my Dove Dry Spray. Ever since I did a sponsored post with Dove a few years back, I haven’t used ANY other deodorant. To be honest, deodorant freaks me out. I’ve always hated the way deodorant felt on my skin, so finding a dry spray that I absolutely loved was incredible. Skim through the news. I’m subscribed to two different newsletters to get my updates throughout the week: The Morning Brew (+ their new retail newsletter) and The Newsette . I used to subscribe to TheSkimm, but I just became over it. The Morning Brew is my favorite way to get caught up on business and tech news that I don’t necessarily seek out or understand fully. The Newsette is a fun-light hearted, easy to read, girly newsletter that I still learn a lot from! Say “I love you” to my parents. I have the luxury of living at home with my mom and dad. While this option might not suit everyone, it’s definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I absolutely love living at home right now. I’m also very close and affectionate with my parents, so I 100000% make sure I’m saying I love you whenever I leave the house to go to work. It’s just a thing we’ve always done. And will continue to do. Now tell me a bit about your morning routine! What do you ALWAYS do before you leave the house? photo by allie provost
It shouldn’t be a big surprise that I don’t wear a ton of make up, nor am I into a ton of make up. New York City fashion blogger, The Champagne Edit shares her summer beauty routine! Check out the best summer beauty products! New York City fashion blogger, The Champagne Edit shares her summer beauty routine! Check out the best summer beauty products! I mean, come on. I was recently getting my make up done for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic and I told the MUA that I wanted “annoying eyebrows”. Clearly, I know nothing. Over the last year or so, I’ve been getting a bit more into make up in terms of actually putting in “some” effort daily. I used to NEVER wear any make up to work. And now I’m getting a leeeeeeeeettttle better at it. I think…someone please tell me if I look like a clown or something. FACE: Tatcha Dewy Skin Moisturizer Getting that dewy glow is the main objective since I don’t have much else going on. I picked up this Tatcha moisturizer simply because it had the word “dewy” in it. Yes, I’m 100% that kind of shopper…whatever, sue me. When it goes on, it feels a little thick, but it sinks in nicely. It definitely gives you a nice glow and keeps your skin hydrated for the day ahead of you. while I let that sink in and dry… BROW: it! Cosmetics Brow Power/ glossier Boy Brow I honestly didn’t start doing my brows until last year. I’ve always had dark brows, and they were pretty filled in. Last year, I started becoming more and more into a dramatic brow, so I decided to learn how to fill them in myself more. I’ve gotten my eyebrows tinted before, but don’t do it too regularly, so this routine currently works for me. I like the Brow Power because it isn’t too thick, easy to use, and is a great shade for my brows. I like to fill in my brows in the front mostly, and don’t have to do too much to the middle or ends of them. After, I like to use Boy Brow (in brown) to give a little additional color. The gel really helps keep your brows in place all day. now that the moisturizer is dry… FACE: Murad & Goop SPF SUNSCREEEEEEN. I think everyone knows JUST how important sunscreen is for your face. Unfortunately, I only started applying sunscreen DAILY this year. I also only started applying sunscreen while I was outside in the sun (pool, beach, etc.) last year. I know, it’s bad, but hey, I learned before I was 30. ANYWAY… I’m not dedicated to one product, so I wanted to share both! Murad City Skin SPF Moisturizer : I’ve talked about this product and brand before, but it’s still part of my routine! I like to add this before heading out the door to start my morning off protected from SPF, city pollutants, and blue light. Goop SPF : I got this sample at the VCPC and honestly was very surprised how much I liked it! Since it was a tester size, I keep it in my bag with me at all times for when I need to reapply throughout the day. Honestly, it goes on SO smooth and SO invisible. Definitely recommend! FACE: Beautycounter Dew Skin This was a very recent purchase…as in last Friday. I picked this up when we stopped at goop in Nantucket. I’ve been wanting to try some Beautycounter products for a while now (honestly Ashlee and Brittany are my go to gals for knowledge), but it’s a bit overwhelming since I don’t ACTUALLY need anything. But ya know, since this was a leisurely stroll around the store, I was able to test out their Dew Skin tinted moisturizer (in No.2). I ended up loving it SO much and bought it on the spot. CHEEK: Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge I am ALL about a good cheek color. Luckily my sister got a new product, so she gave this to me. Honestly, I rub this onto my cheeks with my fingers. It gives the perfect “just pinched” look. I use color Pale Pink . CHEEK: Tom Ford Glow Drops / Almay Instant Glow Again, v into the dewy look, so a good highlight is a must. My sister and I decided to splurge on Tom Ford Glow Drops a few months ago, and it was honestly a great purchase. And let me tell ya, if you’re thinking about purchasing, just remember a liiiiiittle goes a long way. For best results, I highly recommend using a beauty blender. When I’m in a hurry, my fingers have to do the trick. If you’re not looking to splurge, then I recommend this Almay duo highlight . The stick portion is super easy to swipe on and go! So as you guys can see, I’m just suuuuper into make up;) But I do love this look and don’t mind doing it every day. This finished look is usually about 5 minutes from start to finish…and gives you the perfect summer glow!
A look at the beauty and skincare products I’ve been loving this month! Not Your Mother’s Hair Products I used to swear by Drybar’s dry shampoo (I still do use it). Until I discovered NYM products. And now I am officially changed. I’m really into having a lot of grit in my hair now that it’s short. I was STOKED to discover the Texturizing Dry Shampoo because why wouldn’t you want some additional grit ALL while soaking up the oil from your 3 day hair?;) It also smells AMAZING. And then the Texturizing Dry Spray – I have like, ZERO words. It’s THAT good. It’s a 2-in-1 in terms of giving your hair some volume/grit along with a decent hold for your beach waves and curls. You honestly cannot beat the price of these products either. So these two products are MUST. HAVES. IN. MY. BOOK. HUM Skin Heroes I received the Skin Heroes in a press package and decided to really take them. I’ve been taking them for about 2 weeks and have definitely noticed a difference in my gut health and overall digestion. The one thing I haven’t really seen a difference in yet is my skin. I always get random and annoying chin break outs, and I thought this would help. Not much of an improvement there, but I’m going to keep taking them. I guess we’ll see! Supergoop Glow Stick I was at the pool with my sister a few weekends ago, and in her little bag of all pool things (it was a BIG BAG) was this product . It felt SO nice on my face while I was in the sun. Basically it’s a glow boosting oil stick for your face, chest, and shoulders. You can use it as a highlighter to brighten your every day look while protecting your face with SPF 50! What products are YOU loving this month?
A look at the beauty and skincare products I’ve been loving this month! Benefit Brow Bar My eyebrows are becoming more and more important to me. I realized my brows were SCREAMING for attention just a few days before I left for Croatia. And let’s just say I haven’t given them attention in months. I really liked a local place that my sister and I went to in May, but they’ve been booked up forever. I knew Elle loved Benefit , so I made a last minute appointment at their SoHo location. And let’s just say, OBSESSED. I ended up getting a lip wax (WHAT?!) and brow wax/tint. I LOVE a good dark, filled in brow, and mah girl Kara knew what she was doing! It’s not cheap, it cost me about $60 (with tip) to get the three services. Definitely worth it before a trip though! Neutrogena Purifying Wipes I picked these up on a whim in CVS one night after work . If I’m in a pinch, I used to use the make up remover wipes. But these? WAY BETTER. These wipes clean the skin and remove make up without stripping your face of natural oils. Definitely packing these in my carry on for the plane so I can use them before my in-flight skincare routine. OPI Big Apple Red Any time I post something super close up of my nails, I get questions or comments about my nail color. At this point in my life, I can 100% say that OPI’s Big Apple Red is definitely my signature color. Every time I think I want something different and get it…I end up hating it. And then go back to my favorite color. There’s just something about it that seems so chic and classic. And really goes with everything! What’s your go to color? What products are you loving this month? What do I need to try next?!
The more I think about it, the more I realize just how much I actually smile. This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of GLEEM. The opinions and text are all mine. Which is a good thing. Obviously. But much like the movie, Elf, smiling is most definitely my favorite. And smiles are contagious. So let’s smile more, ok? But behind every good smile, is a good toothbrush. Or something like that. Right? That’s why I’m so excited to be partnering with GLEEM ! I’ve been using their power toothbrush for a few weeks and I’m SO happy with the results. So why do I love it so much? Design: The electric toothbrush I was using previously was super bulky and it was kind of annoying. I love the sleek design of GLEEM . ..and how it looks in my bathroom! It’s also battery operated and super lightweight, so you can take on-the-go! Price: At just $25, GLEEM is just an investment for your smile, not from your pocket! Usage: I have really sensitive gums, so I appreciate the gentle sonic vibrations that still create a beaming smile! There’s a built in timer that pulses every 30 seconds for the perfect 2 minute brush. Benefits of using a power toothbrush Encourages longer, more thorough brushing with built-in timers Bristle vibrations help remove biofilm Gets those hard to reach places, which can help prevent gum issues Helps eliminate bad breath with the right toothpaste Do you use a power toothbrush? If not, I highly suggest you check out GLEEM ! I promise your smile will THANK YOU! This post is sponsored by GLEEM. All opinions are my own. A look at the beauty and skincare products I’ve been loving this month! anastasia brow definer I’m on such a brow kick. My brows are my main focus right now, honestly. I’m currently in the process of growing out the front part of my brows, so filling them in is 100% necessary. I left my brow pencil at home one day, and borrowed my friend’s from Anastasia . I LOVED how easy it was to apply it, and how well the color went with my brow color. So what did I do? Naturally went and picked up my own the next day . crabtree & evelyn I went to an event recently with Crabtree & Evelyn and was able to test out some of their products. If you haven’t heard of them, now is the time to try them out. My favorite product is probably their Renew & Nourish Hand Cream . It’s pretty thick, but doesn’t feel icky – just think less is more! I’m also into their body oil and face foam ! eyelash extensions I know there are A LOT of mixed reviews about eyelash extensions, but I gotta tell you – I AM HERE FOR THEM. I first got my eyelash extensions in 2015 for my sister’s bachelorette party. And honestly, I’ve had them ever since. So yeah, that means I still have eyelashes for those skeptics;) While they’re definitely a lot of maintenance, they’re completely worth it. I wake up and barely need to put anything on my face ( see my make up routine here ). It’s especially nice in the summer months to not have to worry about mascara running down your face because you’re sweating! Sometimes I can go an entire month without getting a new set, and other times I like to go every two weeks. If you’re in New York, I go to Secret Eyelash (cannot believe I’m LITERALLY telling you my secret place). It’s not the fanciest salon – I used to go to Lashes On 5th and it was MY FAVORITE, but you get what you pay for. In this case, it’s….wait for it…only $65 WITH TIP. You can thank me later. What are you loving this month?!
A look at the beauty, skincare, and self care products I’ve been loving this month! BROW STYLER EYEBROW PENCIL & POWDER DUO I mentioned in this post that I was loving Benefit for a good eyebrow tint and wax. I went 2 weeks ago and the girl who did my brows introduced me to a new product: The brow styler pencil and powder duo. She filled in my brows with the powder part after tinting my brows…and I knew I immediately needed it. I’ve been loving how easy the powder blends in while filling my brows in. Usually the pencil looks a little harsh, so this is a nice way to easily fill your eyebrows! yoga I used to really enjoy doing yoga in college. I took a yoga class for credit, and then slowly started taking more classes in the DC/Virginia area. I also really enjoyed Bikram. For whatever reason, probably laziness, I stopped practicing. Over the last few months, I’ve been trying to get back into it. I’ve tried Y7 (and I really enjoy it), but I definitely need to continue practicing on my own. MILK lip balm Every night after my skin care routine, I LOVE putting this lip balm on. It hydrates the lips using hemp-derived cannabis seed oil and shea butter. SO soothing and perfect way to get your lips ready for the next day;)
A look at the beauty, skincare, and self care products I’ve been loving this month! elderberry gummies Not only do these taste delicious, they’re also a natural way to support your body’s immune system. Elderberries are packed with antioxidants and potassium , as well as act as an anti-inflammatory. Now that it’s cold and flu season, I’m trying to prevent getting sick at all costs. I’m trying to do less medicines and more natural things to help my body. apple cider vinegar shampoo I mentioned this shampoo briefly in The Friday Edit a few weeks ago, but wanted to circle back to talk about it more in depth. I’m honestly LOVING this shampoo so far. For a while, I’ve been taking a lot of heat to my hair, so I was excited to learn that WOW helps repair damaged hair. Also, winter is upon us here in New York, and this shampoo helps ease dry scalp. Another great thing about WOW is that it really cleans your hair. Since I don’t wash my hair very often, I love the feeling of a super clean scalp after using this shampoo. And one more thing to note: This shampoo helps with slowing down hair loss! Although this isn’t something I personally deal with, I thought it was such a great talking point – in case you’re dealing with that! welly first aid One day I was at Allie’s apartment and desperately (ok, fine, not desperate) needed a bandaid. She handed me these Welly bandaids and said I could keep them. At first, I thought they were kind of weird because they were in a tin and looked funny. I obviously put one on anyway, and was SO impressed by them. The specific bandaids I used were hydrocolloid pads that seal in moisture to promote faster healing (i.e. keeping out germs and dirt). I also swear these bandaids stuck to you LIKE GLUE. Seriously. And they didn’t get that gross “yeah, I’ve been wearing this bandaid for too long” look. So basically, I’m never NOT going to be wearing these bandaids when I get a cut or blister! There are so many kinds of bandaids and kits you can get – and you won’t believe the price!
Taking care of your skin is one of the most important things you could do for yourself. And now there’s a great solution to figure out what works best for YOUR skin specifically. Skinsei is a new-to-me company that helps you find a unique routine to fit all of your biggest skincare concerns. I think in today’s world, we’re bombarded with products and brands. For me, I used to buy products just because someone else recommended them or they looked cool…even though I had NO idea what kind of skin type it was good for. What initially intrigued me about Skinsei was how much research goes into finding your routine after you take a simple diagnostic. These questions are going to ask everything from skin concerns (oily, dry, etc.) to lifestyle (sleep, drinking, etc.) to diet. After you take the quiz and optional selfie to further analyze your skin, Skinsei will give you an assessment of all the factors affecting your skin. Next, you’ll get a 3-5 step regimen that is PERSONAL to you! I received a 5-step routine and started testing it out immediately. I thought it was interesting that micellar water was included in my routine as opposed to a regular cleanser. For the longest time I was confused about what micellar water actually was. Micellar water is a great cleanser for removing a lot of gunk (for lack of a better word) off your face. Living in New York City can be horrific for your skin, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this product rids your skin of dirt and make up! So, what are my other thoughts on Skinsei? I LOVE IT! Obviously, with any routine, consistency is A MUST. Their products are really affordable, which makes me excited to continue using this routine. Bonus points that all products from Skinsei are pH balanced! I like that these products aren’t going to throw off my skin’s rhythm! I hope this post helps introduce you to a really great skincare brand that is SO personal! If you want to try out for yourself, you can use code DANA20 for 20% off your first purchase! Thank you to Skinsei for partnering on this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
